A contemporary side extension and refurbishment of a detached 1960’s Georgian style house.
The brief was to design a contemporary home with an open plan living area to maximise useful space and to allow plenty of daylight in. A strong visual connection to the rear garden was also important.

The replacement of an existing garage and outbuildings to provide an accessible two bedroom annexe for a multi-generation family with an open plan living area.
Using a vernacular palette of materials and large areas of glazing, the building was oriented towards the outstanding views, whilst maintaining privacy to the main house and neighbours.
Scale and bulk were minimised to reduce visual impact on the surrounding landscape.

The brief was to design a modern addition to the house to resolve a problematic floor plan to accommodate extended family.
The new wing provided a large kitchen and dining area with two ensuite bedrooms with large areas of glazing oriented to the garden views.
Vernacular materials were selected using modern detailing and construction methods. The scale and form of the building was designed to provide a respectful ‘bookend’ to the existing property.
